Interview Jean Giraud - The eternal traveler.
Connected on a cloud of dreams
It's going to be very (very) hard to remain impartial this time.
How do you write about an artist whom you've been reading and admiring since several decades?
Just breathe and remain simple. The amazing universe of Mœbius /Jean Giraud has been inspiring several generations of dreamers and influenced in a profound way many respected artists from different horizons.
Three names (Mœbius, Jean Giraud and Gir) serving the same Art which metamorphoses itself as it goes. He creates, alone or with his collaborators, a multitude of characters that become either a cult or an inspiration. Over the years his reputation became universal.
Universes with crystalline structures are born from Jean Giraud 's pen, with a mastery comparable to that of the greatest painters, he is often gearing towards a poetic and metaphysical science fiction, inhabited by slightly offbeat heroes.
We knew the highly rewarded artist, meeting the man is quite the surprise.
Generous, light, with a very spatial elegance, the breeding of an overcharged teenager and a mature man, like his caracters: a hero without knowing it!!
He is our kind of artist , we are seduced and fascinated.
A guided tour for extra terrestrials:
Jean Giraud and Jean-Michel Charlier give birth to the Blueberry saga, wich became a western classic.
In 1975 he creates the magazine Métal Hurlant with the collaboration of Jean-Pierre Dionnet, Philippe Druillet and Farkas, finally a graphic novel for a passionate and mature crowd, unlike the "kid's graphics" standards of the time.
Creator of new worlds, more heroes and albums appear: Major Fatal - The easthetic shock of Arzach opens doors overseas. - Starwatcher - Aedena - The long tomorrow creates the basis of cyberpunk urban worlds. Le Garage hermétique…..etc.
From his meeting with Jodorowsky rises an unforgettable series: The Incal.
Several illustrated anthologies help us discover the numerous aspects of Mœbius.
We discover a parallel influence between his work and Hayao Miyazaki.
He has collaborated to many movies including Dune, Alien -The eighth passenger, Tron, Time masters, Willow, The Abyss, Little Nemo, The fifth element and many more..
Some of his novels become movies, Cauchemar blanc (White nightmare) by Mathieu Kassovitz, Blueberry, Thru the Moebius strip.
The story "The long Tomorrow" completely determined the aesthetic of the movie Blade Runner.
Creation of a publishing company directed by his most fervent fan, his wife Isabelle Giraud: Mœbius Production.
