The "looking for something special" exhibition at the Georges de Providence Gallery, brings together for the first time the artist Thomas Hicks and the creator Laurence Maheo, a collaboration based on artisitic affinities , driven by the sole desire to introduce and confront their respective works on Travelling and the ocean.
A sensitive and poetic dialogue, between drawings, paintings and videos of Thomas Hicks and the very unique textile pieces of La Prestic Ouiston. Laurence Maheo (aka "La prestic -Ouiston, after her dolls) is constantly working on new creations, without a pre-established process, without commercial contengencies.
With a passion for rich fabrics, she inherited from her grand parents, fabrics retailer, a taste for beatiful materials, and she finds inspiration in the raw material.
Being an adepte offreedom of expression, without drawing (she prefers to write), Lauren bases her models on Stockman, gathers, customizes, creates the patchwork of bags, or turns tweed silk scarves and transforms them in splendid lining.
Thomas Hicks , specialized illustrator in animation, also functions without spectacular system, to direct his movies, he relies mainly on animation and his scrapped paintings, scratched, with raw and industrial forms.
Young winner of a contest organized by the magazine "creative review", he wins the direction of the clip of "gravenhurst" (from the Warp label) and offers a glimpse of his artistic language, right after that other projects came out, including "fires in distant Buildings".
Thomas works with listening to music and likes to be guided by its energy, it's the natural crossing of two worlds, representing a vaste scope of emotions.
