Referring - unwittingly or not? – to 80’s glam London and Leigh Bowery, Andrey Bartenev grew up in the Siberian town of Norilsk. This industrial landscape of white snow and black skies – even more grim than Maggie Thatcher’s London - partly explains Bartenev’s fondness for contrast and colour as proven by “Disco-Nexion”, a reworking of his installation at the Venice Biennale last year.
This psychedelic, disconnected dance floor experience is made of repeated circles of trippy LED lights in red, blue and green. Collages of comic-strip astronauts and gay-porn playing cards complete this playful world…
A touch of lightness in the middle of winter !
