Waitress - almost impossible to pronounce for a non anglophone like me, who panic at the first linguistic difficulty, is an american indie in the line of "Little Miss Sunshine". And go figure, the latter, with its little stripper, had a lot of success , our pissed off waitress less... The waitress, queen of the wild home made pies, and who's not at all thrilled to be a future mom. She hates her guy, the procreator, but sides on keeping the baby out of principle. In other words, she deals, even though a miscarriage wouldn't phase her..
She becomes enraged with this pregnancy and its "favors" nausea, discust, lost of job...
And her rebellions also pass through her pies :the "I dont want to make love with my man anymore " pie, or the anti-baby pie, are both huge success. This girl fails to understand why she doesn't love her child to be, like it should be, as found in nature.
Under a colorful front, Waitress is a seriously anticonventional movie. It ends in an unfathomable clarity : the indestructible strength of this woman becoming a mother. Reality however is more tragic: the talented director Adrienne Shelly, who also plays in the movie, has found a tragic end in a neighborly dispute where she was assassinated. It was her first, and her last, the end.
